We have a couple of exciting opportunities for Consultant Marine Surveyors to join our team of Maritime experts in technically supporting all marine casualties of any type and size worldwide.

What you will be doing.

As our Consultant Marine Surveyor, you will manage a variety of marine consultancy, including but not limited to vessel surveys of all types, accident investigation, expert witness and litigation support, desktop consultancy projects, and risk assessments. You will also be involved in vessel surveys, providing technical advice and consultancy services as well as you will be contributing to the development of Marine and Offshore Operations. In addition, you will:

Assist the maritime team in developing business with P&I Clubs, H&M insurers, ship owners, technical managers, charterers, law firms, ports, and other key stakeholders.
Manage condition assessments of vessels, audit management offices, shipyards, and ports as part of pre-risk assessments.
Manage the attendance of casualties to determine the cause, nature, and extent of the damage.
Prepare estimation cost of repairs and subsequently compile reports for clients.
Assist in marketing ABL Maritime and its services.
Assist in technical and procedural reviews, marine study reports covering marine, cargo, and offshore projects, as well as site attendance.
Manage the attendance of transportation and other marine operations as required.
Prepare and submit reports in clear English based on observations and findings.
Assist in providing expert witness opinion, both written and potentially at court or arbitration (dependent on experience).

The roles can be based in either Toronto & Montreal. Other locations (Vancouver, BC) may be considered for the right candidate.

THE CANDIDATE MUST HAVE THE RIGHT TO LIVE AND WORK IN CANADA.

Flexibility and willingness to travel as well as readiness for onshore/offshore assignments at short notice locally and globally for periods would be required.

What we are looking for.

We are looking for a driven and solution-oriented professional with sound technical skills and good decision-making capabilities. The successful candidate will have good communication and interpersonal skills, strong leadership ability, and be able to deal effectively with multiple issues and assignments simultaneously. In addition, you will:

Be a qualified Master Mariner (STCW II/2) or Chief Engineer (STCW III/2) or have at least five years of seagoing experience OR degree-qualified Naval Architect with suitable hands-on shipyard project experience.
Have a driving license which is essential.
Be knowledgeable and have exposure to vessel dry dockings and budgets.
Have previous experience working with marine insurance clients, which will be an advantage but not a requisite.
Have applicable experience (e.g., salvage master, SCR, Pilot) is an advantage but not a requisite.
Have strong verbal, written communication, and report-writing skills in English.
Be physically be capable of working on ships / at shipyards/climbing ladders.
