MECHANICAL PROJECT ENGINEER

Victoria or Richmond

The successful candidate will primarily provide mechanical and marine system engineering activities including providing assistance with vessel refit and new build programs. The position report to the Senior Mechanical Engineer in the Fleet Technical group at B.C. Ferries.

You will be expected to conduct day-to-day technical engineering and long term design assignments. This will be in support of on-going re-fit and modification work, new or modified vessel system development and/or review, and will involve: marine systems analysis; Engineering Change Request (ECR) design (configuration management); LNG/Natural gas design work; and review of specifications; all in compliance with regulatory requirements. The individual will be expected to complete marine engineering calculations and design documents (diagrams and arrangements), have effective communication skills, and work with ship’s crew to develop solutions.

You are a Professional Engineer (or EIT candidate) with some knowledge about ferry operations and marine regulations, project planning, and development. You are mature, responsible, reliable and competent. You are a self-starter and perform well under limited supervision. You have experience with technical writing and are a proficient computer user. Additionally, you will have experience with AutoCAD, Rhino, and/or SolidWorks sufficient to develop a diagram or 3D model with some support and guidance. Experience with data acquisition systems, 3D scanning and Point Cloud models, creation of spreadsheets, SolidWorks (w/FEA), P&IDs, marine regulations, and pipe flow analysis, will be an considered an asset.
