Reports to:

The 4thClass Engineer reports to the Captain and the Division Manager.

All crew members must comply with all regulations set out by the Canada Labour Code, Canada Shipping Act, Corporate Policy, Company Safety Policy, Transport Canada regulations including Marine Personnel Regulations and any other applicable legislation. All crew members will be required to cross the border to the United States as required by vessel’s voyage operations. Exercising a high degree of professionalism with all third party inspectors or customers is mandatory for all shipboard personnel.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The 4thClass Engineer’s duties include, but are not limited to:

Keeping all machinery spaces and equipment clean and free of hazards to ensure a safe working environment

Understanding the tasks to safely discharge or receive fuel, lube and dirty oils; and in handling engine room chemicals

Performing all watchkeeping duties assigned, standing fire watches, and becoming familiar with the layout of the vessel

Performing or assisting in all maintenance activities

Maintaining good mechanical skills and judgment, with the ability to follow written and oral instructions

Working diligently to promote a safe working environment.

Assisting in the accomplishment of vessel functions by performing other related duties as required

***Shift Information***

This position is a temporary relief position

Required Qualifications

The 4thClass Engineer must hold the following minimum qualifications (subject to variance in the vessel’s safe manning documents):

High School or GED

Engine Room Rating issued by Transport Canada

Valid STCW Certificates issued by Transport Canada, including Marine Basic First Aid and MED’s

Basic oil tanker certificate and endorsement by Transport Canada

Transport Canada mandated Marine Medical Examination

1 year of relevant work experience

Additional Qualifications

Ability to lift, handle, and carry heavy objects up to 22.3 kg

Ability to work in confined spaces

Asset qualifications

Confined Space Certification

Work Experience as a Diesel Mechanic, Heavy Duty Mechanic, Machinist, Pipe-Fitter, Engine Fitter, or Small Diesel Repair
