WaterBridge Group is a privately-owned ship building and ferry operator company based in British Columbia,
Canada. The team specializes in building vessels in remote sites, under difficult environmental conditions and with limited access to industrial infrastructure.
We are also responsible for the safe ferry passage of people in the communities of Arrow Lakes and Burns

Marine Engineer, Auxiliary

The 4TH Class Marine Chief Engineer is accountable for the safe, efficient, and effective maintenance and operation of the propulsion and ancillary equipment of a vehicle and passenger ferry in excess of 500 tonne displacement, terminals, barges, ramps and ramp machinery, shore generators and compressors, dry dock, and tug.

Key Accountabilities:

Routinely functions as Marine Engineer on shift.
Investigates all equipment failures and breakdowns, estimates costs incurred, determines the cause of failure or breakdown, recommends and implements remedial action, and advises if other ferry system equipment is affected.
Forecasts and reports on mechanical or personnel problems that may affect service to the public.
Makes recommendations on improving cost and effectiveness of propulsion and ancillary equipment.
Ensures correct and safe operational procedures through guidance and training of employees.
Ensures sound employee relations through positive and effective management and communications with employees and Union representatives
Ensures compliance with WaterBridge Equipment’s policies and regulations, the Canada Shipping Act, the Workers’ Compensation Act, and the BCGEU/WaterBridge Collective Agreement; receives technical direction and advice from the Marine Manager.

Qualifications/Skills/Experience:

Current 4TH Class Marine Engineers Certificate, or better
Must provide a valid Marine Medical Certificate prior to start date
Must hold a valid BC Driver’s License – Class 5
Proven leadership skills
Ability to meet and deal effectively and courteously with the public, managers and other employees
Professional written and oral communication skills a must
Demonstrated supervisory skills and the skill to use judgment and learned responses to deal with emergency situations calmly, effectively and efficiently.
Working knowledge of the passenger ferry systems an asset

Please note:
This position is located in Francois Lake, British Columbia and is offered as an Auxiliary position. It is considered relief work “as and when required” with no guarantee of shifts. It is best suited for those who currently live in, or are in the process of relocating to, the Burns Lake area of British Columbia, Canada.
