Re: Merlyn Birthday
Thanks for the birthday greetings, JK, DD and BP.
Don't have parties at my age though so to all you folks I say, get all your parties in now, err it's too late as the saying goes.
" It's later than you think " famous saying springs to mind.

Still having birthdays, at your age? Should be ashamed of yourself! I stopped having birthdays at 36, I've been 36, 36 times now!

Re: Merlyn Birthday
JJ,
You're catching me up rapidly though. I worked that out without referral to Reeds/ calculus dx/dy etc.
So far, to date I've managed to duck piston/ Liner change/ crank grind and heads overhauls and would still appear to be running on all six.
However your date with those golf clubs is much closer than mine, your going hull down ( disappearing over the horizon = retirement ) looms ominously closer and the boring tv soaps beckon.
My New Years resolution?
Keeping out of that wretched FWE column.
And continuing to duck those boring soaps/golf.
Poor old JJ, amongst the best,
Heading off for well earnt rest.
Bearing scrapers up on the wall,
Torque wrench lurking in the hall.
Bearing leads to be used no more,
On that top shelf out in the store.
No more marking, no more tests,
Now it's time to Join the best.
All the pens are now at rest.
Rob Roy now beckons for a hand,
As there is more Scotch in that fair land.
But now the most important thing of all,
Is to remain there or the up anchor call?
Xmas looms on the horizon and it all has to be done,
Festive wise to keep the Overstoichiometric ratio at 14-7 to one.( the Scotch dilution rate for you this Xmas )
After all said and done we don't want that glowing MIL ( management indicator light ) to start glowing on your forehead and for you to go into Limpo Mode or Shutdown Mode when performing over the Xmas bash.
Retirement indicates a lean burn situation ale/whisky wise so best you get in training and get that pipe and slippers out.
PS.
Don't forget to write.

JollyJack you must think like the late Comedian Jack Benny but he stopped counting at 39.JollyJack wrote:Still having birthdays, at your age? Should be ashamed of yourself! I stopped having birthdays at 36, I've been 36, 36 times now!
My father also tried put the brakes on and stop counting at 39 as well but had to admit his age when his oldest son (me) turned 40

Re: Merlyn Birthday
My missus strongly objects to a hubby a couple of years older than her son, and 15 years younger than his own eldest! As for retirement, Merlyn, I retired in 2003 when I came to TC, no more 12-18 hour days, work 5 days a week, not 7, every weekend off, sleep in my own bed every night, I get days off they call "holidays"..and I get paid for them, when I get sick, I don't get fired, I get paid! Beats the hell outa working, I thoroughly endorse it!
I mark my last Exam, ceasing "work" in July 2018, after that, who knows? Insh'Allah.

Re: Merlyn Birthday
Struggling with the necessary formulae required to comprehend your opening lines, seems to me you have been hull down since 2003 gradually dropping down over the horizon.
Dress rehearsal jobby in the making already going on.
No more damaged pinkies, broken finger nails and blackened nails both sides already occurring .
Bet the retirement cake is already ordered, you know the one, the landing craft format one, ( obviously the correct type /model )
Let us all know when the bash is so we can start saving up for all our invites.
Oh, and whilst organising the bash kindly organise the weather and also inform us as to whether or not we have to bring our ice skates as the only ice we have over here is civilised, i.e. In that haste ye back glass.
