The next CIMarE Vancouver Island Branch meeting will take place Thursday October 17 at 7 PM in the lower lounge of the Naden Naval Officers' Wardroom near the dockyard entrance, at 1586 Esquimalt Road. Guests and spouses are always welcome. Members often arrive early to have a beverage with colleagues in the upstairs lounge before the meeting.

The speaker for the evening will be Mr. Scott Beatty, a PhD candidate from the University of Victoria, who will present his latest research on Ocean Wave Energy Capture devices. Mr. Beatty will showcase scale model testing completed at the wave tank facility in St. John's, Newfoundland and present the challenges of building, instrumenting, and deploying the devices. The wide range of data produced reveals dynamics fundamental to these types of devices, which may play an important role in Canada's electricity production in the future. The data is invaluable for verification and validation of new designs and engineering models.
